THE PACKAGE
Conditions differ from government schools to language colleges. TeachKoreaTM places teachers in a
selection of government and private schools and colleges that typically offer the following working
conditions.
Salary
You can expect to earn 2 million to 2.6 million Korean Won per month depending on your qualifications and the
location of the school employing you. Visit www.xe.com to
convert this into your own currency. For this salary you will work 22 to 30 hours a week from Monday to Friday.
As a South African you will enjoy up to 2 years of tax free income whereafter you will be taxed at less than 5% leaving you with a substantial disposable income.
You will be paid overtime should you be requested to exceed the hours in your written contract. On completion
of each 12 month contract a 13th cheque is paid regardless of whether you leave or stay on with the school for
another year.
Air Ticket
Teach Korea can provide you with an economy-class ticket from your home town to South Korea. Your school will
give a 100% refund on this ticket when you arrive to begin your contract. Your school will also buy you an
economy-class return ticket back to your home on completion of each 12 month contract period. Should you choose
to renew your contract your school will refund your flight back to Korea on your arrival.
Accommodation
You will be provided with a private, rent-free, fully furnished apartment close to your school, typically
within walking distance. Your only accommodation expense will be your standard utilities.
Medical Aid
Your school will pay 50% of the basic medical cover required for foreigners working in Korea.
Contract Period
This is always 12 months and can commence at any time during the year and can be renewed indefinitely.
